A truck, on Monday, crushed a woman to death at Obada-Oko, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, when it rammed into a shop and a building by the roadside.

The accident was reportedly caused by the decision of the driver to engage in a struggle for the lane with another truck driver.

Our correspondent gathered that one of the truck drivers drove recklessly, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the building.

The Public Relations Officer, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident to journalists on Monday in Abeokuta.

Akinbiyi said the accident occurred around 8:25 am at Obada-Oko, inbound Abeokuta.

He said the driver of the truck with number plate KSF 209 XY ran away to escape the wrath of the angry mob, who gathered at the scene.

Akinbiyi noted that the relatives of the victim retrieved the corpse for burial.

He stated, “Two trucks were competing for the lane as if they were on a race track. Suddenly, in an attempt to avoid an object, the driver of the one on the outer lane swerved towards the inner truck, and in an attempt to avoid the other one, rammed into the shop and the house by the roadside, killing a woman in the process.

“The woman had just taken her bath and was trying to apply make-up in preparation for the day’s job.

“The driver of the truck ran away to avoid members of an angry mob, who were desperate to kill him and set the truck ablaze, but for the quick intervention of TRACE operatives and the police from the Obada-Oko Divisional Police Station.”

While commiserating with the deceased’s family, Akinbiyi implored truck drivers “to avoid reckless and dangerous driving in view of its attendant consequences.”
