Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has reportedly agreed to a three-year deal with Real Madrid.

The former midfielder is set to take over from his former manager, Carlo Ancelotti, at the end of the season.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 43-year-old is set to lead Los Blancos in the maiden edition of the FIFA Club World Cup tournament in the United States in the summer.

Romano added that the club is set to bid farewell to Carlo Ancelotti in the coming days.

In his latest transfer update, Romano wrote: “Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, here we go!

“Story confirmed and deal sealed for Xabi as the new manager until 2028.

“Staff sorted, contract in place, and a three-year deal for Alonso, with Real planning for him to start at the FIFA Club World Cup.

“Ancelotti farewell soon, then the Xabi era.”
