Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers vowed to give Kelechi Iheanacho more playing time following his heroic performance against Walsall on Saturday.

Iheanacho bailed the Foxes against the League two opponents with a second half goal in the FA Cup tie.

The Nigerian scored a deflected stunning goal to send the Foxes to the next round of the oldest football competition.

“He will get more game time with Jamie Vardy out for a few weeks,” Rodgers continued.

“He made a big impact and some players have that ability coming off the bench. When gets his chances he scores. He has made a great impact in the competition since I’ve been here.

With the goal, Iheanacho extended his record as the highest scoring African player in the FA Cup with his 17th in 23 appearances in the competition.

Since his FA Cup debut in January 2016, Iheanacho’s 17 goals highest-scoring in the competition is the most by any player.

The Nigerian has netted seven in his last seven appearances in the cup.

“Last time he did this, we won the FA Cup, so hopefully it’s an omen,” said Rodgers.

“There have been a couple of things off the field for him (Iheanacho) that we have had to manage but he has been fine,” Rodgers concluded.
