Former Super Eagles midfielder John Mikel Obi has stated that Arsenal will not win the Premier League this season, despite having the best squad in the league.

The former Chelsea star believes the Gunners were fortunate to secure a 2-1 victory over Newcastle United in the Premier League last weekend.

The win, sealed by Gabriel Magalhães’ stoppage-time header, helped Mikel Arteta's side close the gap on Liverpool to just two points.

Despite grinding out a result at a difficult venue like St. James' Park, Mikel Obi believes Arteta’s team still lacks the mental strength needed to win the title.

“I don’t think Arsenal can win the Premier League this season — I don’t think so. I think they’re still miles off it with the team they have,” Mikel said on his podcast show.

“They have the best squad in the Premier League, absolutely no doubt about it. But when you watch that game and the way they played, I think mentally they are very, very weak.”
