Liverpool manager Arne Slot has debunked reports suggesting that Victor Osimhen was the Reds’ prime transfer target during the summer.

Osimhen was a huge topic in the summer transfer window, with top Premier League clubs rumoured as potential destinations including Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool.

The 26-year-old eventually signed for Galatasaray, joining the Turkish giants on a permanent deal after a successful loan spell.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool's crucial UCL clash against Galatasaray in Istanbul, Arne Slot disclosed at his pre-match press conference that Liverpool’s priority had always been the signings of Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.

“‘Unfortunately,’ is not the right word I should use because of an enormous tragedy that happened with Diogo Jota. In the end, we had to bring in two number nines.

“But it was always clear to us that from the start [of the summer window], we wanted to bring in these two [Isak and Ekitike] if we needed to.”
