Osimhen nears Turkish league title with Galatasaray

Victor Osimhen is approaching a maiden league title with reigning Turkish Super Lig holders Galatasaray, following their 2-0 away victory against Trabzonspor at the Papara Park on Saturday, which leaves the club just a solitary point from clinching the 2024/2025 top flight crown.

The Super Eagles striker featured for the entire ninety minutes for the red and yellow, but could not add to his tally of goals and assists in the hard fought victory. Despite firing blank, the former Lille frontman is set to win only a second career league title, after winning the Italian Serie A crown with parent club Napoli in the 2022/2023 season.

After a goalless opening half, defender Abdulkerim Bardakci put Galatasaray in front in the 66th minute with a powerful header from a corner kick, while substitute Alvaro Morata who had come on in the 77th minute, sealed the points with a strike in the 84th minute, after being teed up by Yunus Akgun.

The victory sees Galatasaray extend their unbeaten run to five matches and they sit atop the Turkish Super Lig standings with 86 points, eight above closest challengers Fenerbahce.

Osimhen and his fellow Galatasaray teammates will be crowned champions of the division irrespective of the result of rivals Fenerbahce, provided they can manage at least a draw at home to Kayserispor on match-day 34.

Prior to that, Victor Osimhen will attempt to lift the domestic cup next Wednesday, when they play against Trabzonspor for the second time in days in the Turkish Cup Final, and a victory could open up the possibility of claiming a double in his loan spell with the Istanbul powerhouse.
