The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly set to double Eric Chelle’s monthly wages as head coach of the Super Eagles amid ongoing negotiations.
According to PUNCH, the NFF is ready to review Chelle’s current contract and accept some of his proposals to the federation.
A source close to the federation who disclosed this to PUNCH, however, revealed that the NFF is not willing to go beyond $100,000 in monthly wages for the Malian tactician.
Currently on a $50,000 monthly salary, the former Mali head coach is demanding $130,000 to cover his wages and those of his backroom staff.
“We are open to reviewing Eric Chelle’s current contract and are willing to meet some of the terms he has proposed,” the source told PUNCH.
“The Federal Government and the NFF want continuity. If he lowers his demand, we want him to stay, but we are not prepared to offer more than $100,000 per month.”
The source added that the NFF might be compelled to consider the option of letting Chelle go should he reject their current proposal and that they could launch another search for a new foreign head coach.
“Even if Chelle declines the proposed terms, the NFF is not considering appointing a local coach and would instead look abroad for a replacement,” the source added.
Chelle has been linked to a number of jobs on the African continent and the French Ligue 1, including Olympique Marseille.
