'It is a big honour' - Osimhen speaks on finally breaking George Weah's record

In-form Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen has expressed his delight after surpassing George Weah's Serie A record.

The 24-year-old became the African player with the most Serie A goals after scoring from the spot in Napoli's 1-0 win over Fiorentina on Sunday, May 7.

The Super Eagles striker broke the previous record of 46 goals held by the former footballer-turned-president during his spell with the Rossoneri from 1995 -2000.

The goal was Osimhen's 23rd league goal of the campaign as he maintained his lead at the top of the top scorers chart.

Speaking on his latest milestone, the Super Eagles striker said it is a great honour for him to surpass record which was held by the former Ballon d'Or winner.

“It’s really amazing. A big respect to George Weah. He has put Africa on the map when he was playing here with AC Milan. For me to surpass him is a big honour, a big respect to him,” Osimhen told BT Sports.

“His son, Timothy Weah is my very good friend. And I want to say he has inspired a lot of African players and I’m happy to surpassed his record. He will forever be a legend for me. And I’m really happy about this feat.”
