Atiku alleges political intimidation over unauthorised deposit into his bank account

Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has alleged that a suspicious deposit into one of his private bank accounts is part of an emerging pattern of political intimidation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement yesterday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said an unknown individual transferred money into one of his private accounts with the narration, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign.”

According to the statement, neither Atiku nor his campaign solicited, authorised or had any prior knowledge of the sender or the payment.

The former vice president described the incident as “deeply troubling,” arguing that it raises questions about how the details of a private bank account that is not in the public domain became accessible to unknown persons.

Atiku’s camp said the incident should be viewed as part of what it described as “a litany of suspicious activities” targeted at the former vice president as political activities intensify ahead of next year’s elections.

The statement alleged that if individuals with privileged access were responsible for obtaining the account details, it would amount to a serious breach of privacy and an abuse of power.

Atiku also warned that exposing confidential banking information could leave individuals vulnerable to criminal threats, including kidnapping, fraud, banditry and terrorism.

The ADC presidential candidate called on security agencies to investigate the incident, while urging Nigerians to remain vigilant against what his camp described as attempts at political intimidation and character assassination.

Despite the development, Atiku said he remained focused on his presidential ambition, insisting that alleged efforts to distract or discredit him would not derail his campaign or his commitment to offering solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
