Zenith Bank Plc yesterday deepened its presence in Delta State as the state governor Sheriff Oborevwori inaugurated the Osubi branch of the bank in Okpe Local Government Area, describing the development as a strong vote of confidence in the state’s economy and business-friendly environment.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Oborevwori said the opening of the bank’s 19th branch in the state underscored the growing confidence of investors in the state.
He said the development reflected the success of his administration’s efforts to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
Oborevwori said: “This is more than just a banking facility coming on stream. It is a strong vote of confidence in the future of Delta State and in the opportunities that lie before us”.
He commended the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc, Dame Adaora Umeoji, and the bank’s management team for fulfilling their promise to establish a branch in Osubi.
“When this administration came on board, the bank promised to build a branch to service this community and today it is evident. I am particularly impressed by the leadership of the bank for keeping to their promise,” he said.
He said the branch was the first banking institution in the area, describing it as a major milestone for residents who had long clamoured for access to modern banking services.
Oborevwori said: “It is worthy of note that this branch is the only bank in the whole of Okpe Local Government Area as it is today, and the significance of this bank to our people cannot be overemphasized because of the impact it will have on the economy of this local government.
“They have been agitating and crying for years, and I told them that by the grace of God we would have a bank here. Today, that promise has been fulfilled, and I know that more banks are coming by the grace of God.”
The governor attributed the growing influx of investments into the state to the prevailing atmosphere of peace and security.
“Today, Delta State is enjoying an atmosphere of peace and security that allows our businesses to thrive and communities to prosper. This did not happen by chance. It is the result of deliberate efforts to strengthen security, promote stability and create an environment where people can live, work and invest with confidence,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the new branch would provide quality banking services to Osubi and neighbouring communities, support entrepreneurs, strengthen small and medium-scale businesses, promote financial inclusion and stimulate economic growth.
Oborevwori further said: “When a leading financial institution such as Zenith Bank expands its presence in Delta State, it sends a powerful message that Delta is open for business and ready for greater investment.
“As government, we remain committed to sustaining peace, improving infrastructure and providing the right environment for businesses to succeed. We will continue to work with private sector partners whose investments help drive growth, employment and improve the lives of our people.”
Earlier, Dr. Umeoji expressed appreciation to Oborevwori for supporting private sector investments and creating an enabling environment for businesses in the state.
She said: “Your presence here today speaks volumes about your commitment to supporting private sector investments and the continued development of Delta State. You have further demonstrated this commitment through your generous donation of the land on which this branch now proudly stands.
“The Governor actually donated this land free of charge. He demonstrated the large heart that Deltans are known for and his dedication to creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.”
