'Onigbinde will be remembered for his discipline' - Tinubu reacts to death of ex Super Eagles coach

President Bola Tinubu has reacted to the demise of former Super Eagles head coach, High Chief Festus Adegboye Onigbinde.

The renowned football administrator died at the age of 88, according to a family announcement.

The President praised Chief Onigbinde’s contribution to the development of grassroots football and his efforts to strengthen football administration in Nigeria.

In the statement, Tinubu extended his sympathies to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the National Sports Commission (NSC), professional peers, and fans of Chief Onigbinde, who distinguished himself as the first indigenous coach of the Super Eagles in 1982.

He also highlighted the historic leadership of the football icon, noting that he guided the Super Eagles to the Africa Cup of Nations final in 1984.

“Chief Onigbinde will be remembered for his discipline, integrity, foresight, and passion for the beautiful game,” President Tinubu said, praying for the repose of the departed and comfort for his family.
