Lawyer Aloy Ejimakor has condemned the deployment of security agents against traders of the Onitsha Market who took to the streets of Anambra State to protest the closure of the market by the state government.
MyNigeria reported that Governor Chukwuma Soludo ordered the closure of the market to warn traders against obeying the Monday sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra.
The governor closed the market for one week, with a promise that it might be extended for a month if the traders still comply with the sit-at-home order.
Displeased, traders stormed the street on Tuesday, chanting against the governor's directive. They were dispersed by soldiers and policemen, an action condemned by Ejimakor, who served as lawyer to incarcerated IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
He wrote on X, "The deployment of security agents (particularly soldiers) to quell the peaceful #OnitshaMarketClosure protest is reckless and unconstitutional & should be reversed immediately. If not, it may result in loss of lives which Ndigbo will never forgive. Igbos have paid enough in blood & sorrow in this country."
Ejimakor had earlier stated that obedience to the sit-at-home order could only be stopped if Kanu is released from prison, where he's serving a life sentence for terrorism and treason.
