Labour Party candidate in Saturday’s Anambra State governorship election, George Moghalu, has explained why he did not win at his polling unit.

During an interview on ‘Sunday Politics’ on Channels Television, Moghalu attributed his defeat to vote-buying by some of his opponents.
He admitted that he couldn't match the amount of money other candidates were offering voters, which led him to avoid engaging in vote-buying himself.

He also noted that many voters in his unit fell for the temptation of money, often driven by their financial difficulties.

“Yes, because I couldn’t afford how much that was being paid. I couldn’t pay, and I refused to pay, I refused to get involved.

“So, they have too much money to buy votes, and what do you expect my people to do? They fell because a lot of them are poor,” he said.

Moghalu specifically accused the ruling party in Anambra, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), of being primarily responsible for the alleged vote-buying activities. He also disclosed that numerous party agents, including some who had been detained for vote-buying, were seen sporting APGA party tags.

“Some of them are on record as having been seen purchasing votes.

“There’s even a commissioner who was also caught on camera buying votes in my particular constituency,” Moghalu added.
