The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has donated N100 million to the Iru Ekun Security Network, established by Sunday Igboho.
The announcement was made when Igboho visited the monarch's palace in Osun State on Tuesday.
MyNigeria reported that Igboho was welcomed by a large crowd as he arrived in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, to launch Iru Ekun.
A video on social media showed him waving at the crowd from a vehicle as he rode through the city in a convoy.
The crowd paved the side of the road and chanted Igboho's name excitedly, while youths followed the convoy on motorbikes and on foot.
Iru Eku was established by Igboho to rid the Southwestern region of Nigeria of banditry and terrorism perpetrated by Fulani people.
Their operation has successfully led to the rescue of some victims kidnapped by Fulani bandits. They have also dislodged Fulani people illegally residing in forests in the region.
Iru Ekun now has over 80,000 volunteers
Speaking recently, Igboho revealed that Iru Ekun now has over 80,000 volunteers who want to work with the security network. This was as he revealed which Yoruba states the outfit will be in operation.
Igboho said, “It is delightful to announce the impressive level of interest and enthusiasm demonstrated by our people in the Iru Ekun Security Network. We projected 50,000 personnel, but we have already registered over 80,000 in Yorubaland.
“The security outfit has been officially launched in Oyo and Osun. We have also perfected plans to launch it in Kwara State on Thursday. Critical stakeholders, including Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, are partnering with us in the state.
“While we forge ahead lawfully in combating crimes, especially kidnapping and other terrorist acts capable of breaching the peace and safety of our rural communities, Nigerians should continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s initiative to collaborate with local communities to tackle insecurity.”
