A Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Segun Sowunmi, has called for an end to the disrespect towards Yoruba people and the politics of their region.
He stated that other Nigerians should show the same respect to the Yoruba people, who refrain from interfering in the local politics of other ethnic groups.
Speaking during a podcast, as sen in a viral video, Sowunmi warned that the level of disrespect towards Yoruba politics is becoming too dangerous.
He said, "Tribes are controlling the directive principles of the politics. The Igbos are controlling the directive principles of their Southeast politics. The Hausa-Fulani control the directive principles of their Northern politics. Why would anybody, with all due respect, begin to disrespect the Yorubas and expect that the Yorubas won't have the right to control the directive principles of their own region, of their own space.
"And when people are operating in their region or space, whether as indigenes, settlers, rulers or even joint owners and the people who talked it into existence, the reality is that you must be sensitive to the tribal conclave of the people. I won't come into the Southeast and start to speak to them in a manner that... especially when I'm living there, that I'm the one who... It's growing at a speed that is getting too dangerous. I'm seeing that more and more people are sitting on it. We need to tell young people enough."
