Nigeria still has a long, long way to go.
It's a pity, if not a shame to hear these kinds of words in this present age.
And more worrying is that it comes from people who are regarded as much educated, much civilized and much democratically enlightened, people who are in the forefront of human rights advocacies and who will quickly and proudly showcase any of their own tribe who makes any strides in other people's lands and nations.
So the right and freedom to vote a person's choice in an election is now a matter of life or death in Nigeria?
Can't this man be publicly called to order?
Can't he be rebuked and even arrested for this type of political statement?
What power does he have to make such utterances?
Should the leaders keep quiet at such comments?
This issue of who owns and who doesn't own Lagos needs to be wholistically reassessed.
Lagos is not Ibadan.
Why is it that nobody drags any issue with anybody in Ibadan, in Abeokuta, in Oshogbo and the rest?
How much of the Cocoa wealth was spent in developing Lagos?
Was it not the resources that belonged to all Nigerians that was invested in Lagos because of it's status as the Nation's then capital?
How much oil was produced in Lagos itself and yet the oil boom wealth was heavily spent developing Lagos?
And because it was the Federal capital, all Federal establishments, including Ministerial and Departmental offices were established in Lagos, thereby forcing people from all other parts of the country to come, live, work and do business in Lagos, which multiplied the expansion and development of the city. How much of all these was the handiwork of Yorubas?
Do Yorubas want to obliterate all the history about the making of Lagos just because Lagos that was built with the resources and efforts of the entire nation was handed over to them free of charge?
How much can Yorubas pay to the rest of the country in order to compensate all the other tribes.?
I think this tribal exhibitions are being taken too far.
The Federal government and the National Assembly should reconsider the status of Lagos.
Lagos should be declared a National City because it was not built by any single tribe but by the nation at large.
Someone coming into Lagos from Ogun State, from Oyo State, from Osun State, etc will claim to be a Lagosian, simply l because he speaks Yoruba, but others from Niger State, Bauchi State, Anambra State, Rivers State, etc whose own resources were equally used to develop Lagos, in addition to their own personal contributions is regarded as a stranger.
These are anomalies and should not be promoted.
Nigeria still has a long, long way to go.
