The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), has been accused of leaking a letter that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar sent to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) informing them of his resignation from the party.
MyNigeria recalls that Atiku served two full terms as Vice President of Nigeria and a Presidential candidate twice on the PDP platform.
In the letter announcing his resignation from the party, Atiku described the opportunity as one of the most significant chapters of his life.
"As a founding father of this esteemed party, it is indeed heartbreaking for me to make this decision.
"However, I find it necessary to part ways due to the current trajectory the Party has taken, which I believe diverges from the foundational principles we stood for. It is with a heavy heart that I resign, recognising the irreconcilable differences that have emerged.
"I wish the Party and its leadership all the best in the future. Thank you once again for the opportunities and support," he said.
After the letter became public knowledge on Wednesday, Atiku's aide, Paul Ibe, disclosed that the Minister of Aviation leaked it.
Speaking on Arise News, Ibe said, “People who never wished His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar well leaked his communication about quitting the PDP. Oh yes! It was leaked.
“It is unfortunate that the minister of aviation, who rather should be concerned with aviation matters and there are plenty of them, run ways and better infrastructures, would jump into the case like knowing what caused an accident even before the investigation.
“Actually, they’re the ones. Gross elements in the PDP, working in cahoots with the APC, leaked the communication and that’s why we’re having this conversation. That’s why I said I would rather we’re talking about something else and not this.”
