A source has told MyNigeria.com that operatives from the Eastern Security Network (ESN) shut down an attack helicopter owned by the Nigerian military in Orlu, Imo State.

This comes after the Nigerian military unleashed several airstrikes against the security outfit managed by the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) as they set-up camps in the forest to execute their operations.

The strikes which started Thursday, February 19, 2021, were meant to soften the stronghold of the ESN in the forests.

The continuous influx of armed tanks and personnel from the military has spooked fear amongst locals.

A source who spoke to Vanguard on condition of anonymity said: “The military first visited the camp of the ESN, in Umunna in Orlu local government area and before they get there our men got the information and relocated."

"Not only that they also visited another camp they did not see anybody. So the military destroyed the camps of the ESN. Nobody was killed in this operation. But our people are living in fear."

Residents of the affected areas said to Vanguard that the military started with a show of force, Vanguard reports.

The ESN operatives in January had a bloody clash with the Nigerian Army from Obinze barracks, where four soldiers were reportedly killed, according to Sahara Reporters.

A video of the aerial bombardments on Thursday surfaced with fresh tension and anxiety building in the communities.
