Killing of Soleimani, a dangerous escalation - Jeremy Corbyn

British Member of Parliament, Jeremy Corbyn has stated that the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani is an "extremely serious and dangerous escalation of conflict".

Corbyn also called on the UK government to urge for a "restraint on the part of both Iran and the US".

He tweeted: "The US assassination of Qasem Soleimani is an extremely serious and dangerous escalation of conflict with global significance. The UK government should urge restraint on the part of both Iran and the US, and stand up to the belligerent actions and rhetoric coming from the US".

The U.S Pentagon has taken responsibility for the killing of General Soleimani as tensions heat up between Iran and the U.S.

A statement reads in part: "At the direction of the President, the U.S. military has taken decisive defensive action to protect U.S. personnel abroad by killing Qasem Soleimani, the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force, a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization".
