The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has stated that its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, was never examined by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) as ordered by Justice Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Kanu is being tried for terrorism and treasonable felony amid his clamour for the resurrection of the defunct Biafra Republic.
His lawyers had alerted the court to his health, stating that the IPOB leader needed to be transferred from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) to a general hospital.
In response, Justice Omotosho directed the NMA to examine Kanu to determine if he was fit to continue being tried in court or not.
On Thursday, the NMA informed the court that, after examining Kanu, they had determined that he was fit to continue his trial.
However, in a statement made available to MyNigeria, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful stated that the NMA never examined Kanu.
"From the day Justice Omotosho issued his order on September 26, 2025, the NMA has never examined Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. There was no physical examination, no laboratory analysis, and no blood or urine samples collected. Any document being paraded as a 'medical report' is therefore a fraud and a forgery," he said.
"The NMA failed to tender any report before the court on the date of the order. Instead, they handed a piece of paper to the AGF, who in turn “interpreted” it for the judge. This is an insult to judicial integrity and a clear indication that the AGF, not the court, is dictating outcomes.
"How can a man’s health status be debated and ruled upon when he was never given access to his own medical report until this morning? What Justice Omotosho did today is judicial ambush, pure and simple."
Powerful also accused the Attorney General of the Federation of hijacking the report presented to the court by the NMA.
"The AGF has no legal or ethical authority to receive or interpret Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s medical report. Such a report is strictly between the patient and the examining medical body. By hijacking the report, the AGF has violated doctor–patient confidentiality and committed a criminal breach of trust," he said.
IPOB then issued a list of demands, drawing the attention of the international community to its leader's situation.
The demands read: "The Nigerian Medical Association immediately clarify its role and distance itself from this forged report;
"The Federal High Court reject the AGF’s fraudulent document and compel a genuine, independent medical examination by an internationally recognised neutral team;
"The international community take note that Nigeria’s judiciary has become an appendage of the executive, willing to twist facts, law, and ethics to sustain political persecution.
"Today’s ruling is another nail in the coffin of judicial integrity in Nigeria. A country founded on deceit and steeped in hypocrisy cannot survive on lies forever. History will remember this moment — that when truth was strangled in the courtroom, it was the voice of the oppressed that refused to die."
