Top officials in the United States Government have condemned the recent jihadist killings of Christians in the Middle Belt region of Nigeria.

MyNigeria gathered that scores of Christians were last week killed in Plateau State in the Middle Belt region of Nigeria by jihadists of Fulani extraction.

Reacting, U.S. Senior Advisor to the President on Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, called for an end to the violence against Christian.

Boulos urged the Nigerian government to uphold its commitment to protecting Christians against such attacks.

He said on X, "I’m deeply disturbed to hear of yet another horrific attack in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, where dozens of people were killed in their sleep, including children. My deepest condolences go out to the victims’ families and loved ones. We strongly urge the Nigerian government to uphold its commitments to protect Christian communities and to hold the perpetrators of this violence fully accountable. This violence against Christians must stop immediately."

Also reacting, the U.S Bureau of African Affairs lamented that the incident occurred while considerations concerning Nigeria's designation as a Country of Particular Concern is in review.

It said on X, "The United States is horrified by yet another murderous attack in the Middle Belt of Nigeria, killing dozens of people asleep in their homes in Plateau State. This is especially troubling coming on the heels of the recent CPC Working Group meeting. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those missing and killed, and we strongly urge the Nigerian government to meet their commitments to protect Christian communities and to hold perpetrators of violence accountable."

In his reaction, U.S. Congressman Riley Moore said the incident is why Nigeria cannot be removed from the CPC designation.

He said, "We absolutely CANNOT remove the CPC designation from Nigeria while radical Islamic terrorists continue this horrific violence against Christians. @AsstSecStateAF is right. The Nigerian government must meet its commitments to protect innocent Christian communities."
