Why Crystal Palace won the race for Christantus Uche after Wolves’ approach

Crystal Palace have pulled off a major coup in the transfer market after convincing Super Eagles star Christantus Uche to join them following a failed move to join Wolves, Soccernet.ng reports.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the 22-year-old landed in London on Sunday to complete his move, with a deal now verbally agreed between Palace and Getafe.

The Spanish side are expected to finalise the paperwork on Monday, which a medical and official announcement is expected to follow.

Soccernet.ng understands that Uche was initially reluctant to move to England at this stage of his career, preferring to remain in Spain for at least another season.

Wolves had made an approach for his signature, but the forward turned it down. According to Nigerian Journalist, Buchi Laba, it took the intervention of Palace manager Oliver Glasner and Getafe president Ángel Torres to change his mind.

Laba revealed that Uche held a long meeting with Torres on Sunday morning, during which he was told the club needed to sell him due to financial constraints.

Glasner also played a key role, convincing the Nigerian that Selhurst Park would be the right platform to continue his development.

Before agreeing to the transfer, Uche reportedly discussed the move with Mali coach Eric Chelle, who assured him he had enough time to sort out his future before linking up with the national team for the upcoming international duty with Nigeria.

Crystal Palace now appear to have landed a star who has lit up the Spanish La Liga with his impressive talent.
