Today In History: Fire guts seven buildings at Balogun market

Exactly a year today, January 29, 2020, some parts of the popular Balogun market in Lagos Island was gutted with fire.

According to reports, the fire outbreak occurred barely four months after another outbreak destroyed goods worth millions of naira at the same market.

When the fire broke out, the Lagos State Firefighters arrived to battle the inferno. Several goods and valuables were lost in the cause of the outbreak.

The outbreak caused panic among the several market traders as they tried to salvage some goods by throwing them down the building before the fire extended to its location.

Since the fire occurred over a year ago, the cause of the outbreak is still unknown.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that the fire began from a plaza, which then spread to three other plazas within a short period of time.

No casualty was recorded in the fire that reportedly occurred in the early hours of the morning.
