Nigeria’s football legend Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to secure a FIFA World Cup ticket ahead of the crucial playoffs.
Eric Chelle’s side will face Gabon in the semifinal of the playoffs at the Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat on Thursday, November 13.
A win for Nigeria would guarantee them a spot in the final CAF playoff against either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday, November 16.
Speaking in a chat with Femi Soneye on The Exchange, Okocha expressed his belief in the Super Eagles’ ability to qualify for the Mundial, judging from their performance in their last game against Benin Republic.
“Once there is a glimmer of hope, of course I will believe, and that is the beauty of football,” Okocha said.
“I still trust this team; I still believe it is possible [for Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup]. We put ourselves in this situation, and we are the only ones who can bring ourselves out of it.
From their last outing, you could see the desire to correct their mistakes. They’ve given us hope.”
