Popular Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has taken to social media to raise an urgent alarm regarding the safety and well-being of her two sons, accusing her ex-husband's current wife of inflicting severe emotional and physical abuse on them.
In an emotional video broadcast posted to her official Instagram page, the actress revealed that her former husband, Mutairu Atanda Orilowo, has allegedly withheld her children from her as a form of personal retaliation.
Bakare explained that while she initially preferred to resolve family disputes privately, the situation escalated into a life-threatening emergency that forced her to seek public intervention and legal help.
"Sometimes you don’t take your problems to social media or to the public... but at a point when it gets scary and threatening, sometimes you never can tell if you can get help. This is a sad reality for me because my boys are not with me," Bakare stated.
The actress detailed a terrifying phone call with her sons, during which she claimed to have overheard her ex-husband's wife instructing another youth in the household to assault her child without leaving visible marks.
"I was recently on the phone with my children and there was an argument in the house of the baby father with his wife and some of his children and mine.
"And I heard the wife telling one of the boys in the house to strangle my children’s necks instead of beating them where the scars would be seen by their father," she recounted.
Bakare confirmed that she managed to record audio evidence of the incident and appealed to human rights advocates, legal bodies, and the public to help her secure immediate custody of her children.
"This is a difficult call. However, at this point every necessary step needs to be taken. And valuable intercession sought. All I want is my children’s safety," she added.
Laide Bakare married Mutairu Atanda Orilowo in 2013 following her 2012 divorce from her first husband, Olumide Kunfulire. The union produced two sons before the couple eventually separated.
Under Nigerian family law, custody decisions prioritize the best interest and physical safety of the child, with allegations of physical abuse or unsafe living environments often serving as grounds for emergency judicial intervention and custody modification.
