Former Super Eagles head coach José Peseiro has opened up on what makes coaching the Super Eagles a difficult job.

Despite his impressive campaign at the AFCON, the Portuguese gaffer left his role as head coach of Nigeria after failing to reach a new agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Peseiro, who was in charge of the Super Eagles for 22 months received backlash from fans for his style of play which many deemed as defensive.

His tactics which seemed to be working throughout the tournament eventually backfired in the grand finale after the hosts Ivory Coast came from a goal down to beat the Super Eagles 2-1.

Speaking on his short spell as head coach of the three-time African champions, the 63-year-old pointed out that despite the teams remarkable run to the finals of the Nations Cup, it turns out that many were not impressed by their performance.

"It’s not a job for everybody. You really don’t know what to expect at the job. One minute, you are doing well and in a flash, another person is questioning how well you are doing. We had our best AFCON performance in 11 years, but we still have people not happy about how we got there. The fans want to win everything and in style. It is a very difficult job," Peseiro said via Own Goal Nigeria.

The NFF is yet to announce a new head coach for the Super Eagles. The football mother body has received application from interested coaches including some former Super Eagles stars.
