Thank you for your contribution to my victory but I owe you nothing - Tinubu tells Wike

President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu has told Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike that he owes he nothing although he is grateful for his support towards his victory during the 2023 presidential election.

Tinubu made this known during his speech at the commissioning of the state projects constructed by Wike-led government.

Expressing his appreciation to Wike for his support in the general election held on February 25, Tinubu described the Rivers governor as dependable.

He reiterated his joy and gladness over his victory saying he won fair and square with some structural support.

He said; "If you talk about character, you can say Your Excellency Governor Nyesom Wike you are very dependable.

"I am a very happy man, happy because I went through a very gruesome campaign, fought hard, supported by many of you and I won fair and square. Nyesom I say thank you for your contribution o my victory, I wouldn't have done it without some structural support as not describable in a flyover. He did not choose to serve his own interest, not about him, but rather the interest of the nation, You promoted unity, fairness, you championed justice, thank you.

"In His Excellency, Governor Wike, I see a man of principle. He took a principled stand that the presidency should be retuned to the South; and he had the courage to stand by his convictions, not minding whose ox was gored.

"He is, indeed, a man of great integrity. He did not choose to serve his own interests, rather, the interests of the nation and the people of Rivers State. I thank him for his selfless leadership."

However, Tinubu told Wike that he owes him nothing following the demands he made for refunds of the 12 flyovers he constructed in his state.

The president-elect said he would have to lobby him although he commends his efforts.

"The 12 flyover, and the demand you made for the refund, I owe you nothing, its your road, you've can't chuckle me, and make a demand, you are the one living on this road, I commend your effort, you have to lobby me to collect," Tinubu said.

Bola Tinubu landed Port Harcourt earlier on Wednesday to commission the state projects. His presence in Port Harcourt reportedly raised some concerns after Wike declared Wednesday as a public holiday in the state.

This move was to ensure people people were present to welcome the President-elect to the state amid the commissioning of the projects.
