Ogun Day Festival 2023 launched in Ghana

Ogun Day Festival, a day to celebrate and acknowledge indigenes of the state in Ghana was launched on Saturday, April 29 in Accra, Ghana’s capital.

The festival with the theme "Our Culture, Our Heritage will serve as a historic and good opportunity to enhance mutual understanding among Yoruba's and set a great example of cultural diversity for development, according to National President Ogun Indigenes Forum, Aare Dr. Saheed Smith.

The event, its maiden edition is spearheaded by Ogun Indigenes Forum Ghana.

He noted that “unity is an important element for the society we live in, unity represents togetherness and being there for each other, like we all are one family” adding that Ogun Day Festival is committed “to promoting our values, culture and market our dear states image in Ghana and beyond.”

He said further that “we will form a powerful protective shield for the Yoruba race to safeguard our Cultural heritage in Ghana.”

The Nigeria High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E Ibok Ete-Ekwe Ibas commended the organizers of the event stating that it will be the unifying force that will project the image of Ogun State and Nigeria.

He said Ogun State is “famous for its rich cultural heritage, beautiful landscape, diverse economy, and a home of many hardworking people, including but not limited to our present Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN).”

In attendance at the event were monarchs from the Yoruba community in Ghana including Aare Dr. Saheed Smith, National President Ogun Indigenes Forum; H.E Amb. Ibok-Ete Ibas, Nigeria High Commission to Ghana; Alh. Sheikh Yaya Lamin, Spiritual Father of the day; Hrm. Alh. Mohammed Ali Aliu Alao IV, Oba of Kumasi-Ashanti Region Ghana; HRM. Oba Alh. Hamzat Peregrino Brimah VIII, President - Yoruba Council of Obas, Ghana and HRM. OBA Abdulsalam Adeniyi Amoo Saka, Olu of Central Region, Ghana.

The main event is scheduled for Sunday, October 8, 2023.
