Yoruba people, especially those residing in Lagos State, have slammed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu after news came to light that he's chairing a committee to review claims made by Igbo residents concerning the demolition of illegal properties by his administration.
This was after Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and other Igbo leaders visited Lagos to receive the report of the Joint Committee set up by the Lagos State Government to address the concerns surrounding the demolition of the structures.
According to Uzodimma, Sanwo-Olu graciously agreed to set up a Joint Committee - chaired by himself - to thoroughly review the discrepancies, claims, and counterclaims brought forward.
"As Governors of the South East, we will continue to do our best to see this matter through in accordance with the recommendations endorsed by all," Uzodimma said.
The news angered many Yoruba people who saw the move by the Igbo leaders as an insult to the Yoruba race.
According to many posts on social media, the Igbo leaders didn't request a committee to be set up when their governors demolished illegal structures in their region.
They wondered what gave them the effrontery to cross to the Southwest to question a Yoruba governor's decision to move his state forward.
@YorubaYcy said, "Arrant Nonsense! Of all the Nations living in Yoruba land, the notorious Ibo people need to constantly bend the laws, as well as dim our effort to build a sane society to suit and protect the undesirable acts by the Ibo in Yoruba land. Who can blame them? Sanwo-Olu signifies 'Sánmọ̀n Dúdú' to the Yoruba struggle and to the joy of Tinubu’s Presidency today."
@Manlike_ED said, "Dear Yoruba People, You see this man called Jide Sanwo-Olu? Never allow his kind of man to be the Governor of Lagos State or any State in SW again. Imagine SE Governors went to Lagos to order him to set up a committee that’ll look into what his Govt is doing and he did?! LMAO."
@fadelex said, "Sanwó-olu is so weak and wants to satisfy everyone. You're a second-term governor, for God's sake... why pandering to anyone?"
@blinkmoe07 said, "The gov of Lagos State is a weak man.
@BabaSammy66471 said, "Many saw this coming and warned the president about Sanwo-Olu. Lagos was in better shape under Ambode and Fashola. When leadership doesn’t stand firm for its people, it invites disrespect from others—plain and simple."
@akeemakv said, "Leadership is not by gidigbo, but Sanwo-olu doesn't deserve to lead a group of 10 not to talk of a state like Lagos. He keeps falling off track every day."
@Vampa147 said, "Yoruba leaders are really cowards. Imagine this nonsense. They did not set up a panel when Soludo was demolishing. Sanwo-Olu lacks balls, a dimwit in my books."
