The Lagos State Police Command has said it will detonate Improvised Explosive Device (IED) bombs in a simulation exercise to take place at the Eko Atlantic City on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
In an alert to the public, Command spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin stated that the Nigeria Police Force's Explosives Ordnance Disposal - Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit will conduct the exercise.
He said the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the police's preparedness and response capabilities in the event of any bomb-related emergency.
He said it will involve controlled detonations by specialised units trained to handle explosive devices and related threats.
"Members of the public are hereby notified that blast sounds will be heard during the exercise, but there will be no shrapnel or associated danger.
"Residents, workers, and visitors in and around the Eko Atlantic City area are advised to remain calm, continue with their lawful activities, and not panic when they hear the sounds.
"The command reassures Lagosians that adequate safety measures have been put in place to protect lives or property," Hundeyin said.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, appealed for the cooperation and understanding of the public while this important simulation exercise is conducted and assured them that the command remains committed to their safety, security, and well-being.
