Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has revealed why his side lost to Guinea-Bissau in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
After coming from a goal down to beat Madagascar in the opening game of the qualifiers, the three-time African champions were stunned in their second encounter away in Bissau, as the Wild Dogs defeated Nigeria by three unanswered goals.
The result moves Guinea-Bissau to the summit of Group L with six points, ahead of Nigeria on three points, followed by Tanzania and Madagascar with a point each.
Reflecting on his team’s defeat to Guinea-Bissau ahead of the friendly against Russia, the 48-year-old disclosed that Nigeria lost the game due to poor intensity.
“This is not the same team. We lost the game against Guinea-Bissau because our intensity was not good. It’s going to be a different game,” Chelle said.
“The Russian team also play with a lot of intensity. When they don’t have the ball, they are always aggressive. I want my team to play the same way too.
“If we play that way tomorrow, I will be very happy. I want to see a good game and a good performance from the players,” he added.
The Sbornaya will welcome the Super Eagles to the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium later today (Tuesday, October 6).
