#OcuppyLekkiTollGate: Buhari’s aide hails police

Lauretta Onochie, President Muhammadu Buhari's aide on social media, has given kudos to officers of the Nigerian police for the way they conducted themselves at the planned #OccupyLekkiTollGate protest in Lagos state.

Onochie, in reaction to the demonstration on Saturday, February 13, said the police operated in a professional manner as nobody was hurt during the protest.

Legit.ng recalls that on Friday, February 12, heavily armed policemen took over the tollgate to prevent protesters from converging in the area after they were spotted in some parts of Lekki and other areas of the state.

The police had banned any protest at the tollgate, warning protesters to stay away in order to avoid a repeat of the last protest that led to massive destruction of lives and properties across the state.

In a post on her Twitter page on Sunday, February 14, she said officers must be applauded for doing well so that they can take criticisms of their shortcomings in good faith and she shared a video to back her point.

The presidential aide's statement is coming hours after the Lagos state Police Command announced that it will carry out an investigation into a viral video showing some officers molesting comedian Mr Macaroni and other protesters arrested at Lekki.

This bit of information was disclosed by the Command's spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a press statement on Sunday, February 14. The command frowned at the behaviour of the officers, which it described as unprofessional.

Police arrest protesters

Meanwhile, there was pandemonium in Lagos on Saturday, February 13, as the police in the state arrested some #OccupyLekkiTollGate protesters.

The protesters had stormed the tollgate to march against its repossession by the Lekki Concession Company (LCC).
