Nigeria, Italy to sign deal on trade, economic development

Nigeria and Italy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deepen trade ties between both countries.

This was made public by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo when the Deputy Head of Mission, Italian Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Tarek Chazli paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

According to Gwarzo, Investments in export products; Industrial clusters; Information Communication Technology (ICT), Industrial Processing Zones; amongst others were the areas Nigeria was looking to partner Italy on.

The Deputy Head of Mission, Italian Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Tarek Chazli, who was elated about the move went on to tell Gwarzo of the giant strides Italy has made in Nigeria.

"One of the Italians companies, Cappa and Dalberto had been in Nigeria since 1920 and done a lot of road constructions in Nigeria," he said.

"The Italian Government just opened an Italian Trade Agency office in Lagos last week to strengthen business relations between the two countries," he added.

The envoy also promised to bring more businesses into Nigeria by establishing more companies in Nigeria in the bid to strengthen trade and economic development of the two countries.
