Music career ince caused friction with my dad - Asake

Nigerian artist Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has revealed that pursuing a music career once caused tension with his father, who was vehemently opposed to the decision.

In a recent chat with YouTuber Korty EO, the ‘Sungba’ singer explained that their relationship changed when he insisted on following his musical dream despite his father’s objections.

He noted that the close bond they shared began to fade after he chose to leave home, defying his father’s wishes.

“My dad and I were so close when I was younger. But it got to a time when I wanted to leave home to do what I’m doing now but my father said ‘No.’ I left regardless,” he said.

Asake acknowledged that the decision marked a turning point in their relationship, resulting in a period of distance as he concentrated on developing his music career.

The revelation comes months after his father, Fatai Odunsi, publicly accused the singer of neglect in March 2025, provoking widespread reactions online.

Nevertheless, both father and son have since reconciled, with the singer accepting responsibility for his father’s well-being, signalling a return to better relations after the public fallout.
