Nollywood actor Lateef Adedimeji has opened up on marrying his wife despite their different religious backgrounds, saying peace of mind and compatibility mattered more to him than religious differences.
Speaking in a recent interview, the award-winning actor revealed that he had once ruled out marrying a colleague in the movie industry, only for life to take an unexpected turn after meeting actress Adebimpe Oyebade.
According to Adedimeji, their relationship grew from friendship and business collaboration into marriage, despite concerns over their different faiths.
“We met in the industry, and for me, I would always say that I would never marry an industry person. But when we make plans, sometimes God just looks at you and lets you say what you like while He has His own plans,” he said.
The actor noted that many people were surprised that he, as a practising Muslim, married a Christian, stressing that religion was never a barrier to their union.
“It was shocking to people that as a devoted Muslim I got married to a Christian, but that’s not a problem for me because the first religion is your conscience and peace of mind. Every other thing comes after that,” he said.
Adedimeji disclosed that his wife initially expressed concern that her family might not accept a Muslim as a son-in-law.
However, he insisted on meeting her father to discuss his intentions, explaining that what mattered most to him was how well they complemented each other rather than their religious affiliations.
He added that before becoming a couple, they had already built a strong friendship and worked together on business ventures, a foundation he believes prepared them for marriage.
