Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said only a few Nigerians are benefiting from the country's independence, while the poor continue to suffer under the current administration.

Amaechi, vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the remarks while speaking on Channels Television's Politics Today programme on Friday.

According to him, the situation has worsened under President Bola Tinubu's government.

"The real people benefiting from this so-called independence is the rich. The poor continues to suffer, and it's worse in Tinubu's government," he said.

Amaechi went further, expressing doubt that even wealthy Nigerians were genuinely benefiting from the administration, arguing that gains were being concentrated among a narrow group of people.

"I doubt that even the rich is benefiting. It's just a group of persons that are just benefitting from this government," he said.
