‘I don’t do soap operas’ — Mourinho on possible Real Madrid return

Benfica head coach José Mourinho has responded to media reports linking him with a possible return to Real Madrid.

Los Blancos parted ways with Xabi Alonso after just seven months at the helm following their 3-2 loss to arch-rivals Barcelona in the Supercopa de España final in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Former defender Álvaro Arbeloa has since been drafted in as the new head coach of the Spanish giants on an interim basis for the remainder of the season.

Former Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has been rumoured as a potential replacement for Alonso, with some reports also suggesting that José Mourinho could return to the Santiago Bernabéu for a second spell.

Responding to the speculation surrounding a possible return to Real Madrid, the Special One said: “Don’t count on me for soap operas.

“There are many good soap operas, but they take too long. Then you miss an episode or two and you lose track. Don’t count on me — I don’t watch soap operas.”

Mourinho coached Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, winning one La Liga title, one Copa del Rey title and one Supercopa de España.
