Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has revealed that she nearly took up pastoral work at the age of 19, opening up about her deep spiritual journey during a viral livestream interview that followed her recent reconciliation with ex-husband Olakunle Churchill.
According to the actress, she has sensed a divine calling from a young age but chose to walk away from it as a teenager. She explained that she believed God wanted her to first experience life before fully stepping into her purpose. Tonto added that her survival through numerous personal challenges is strongly tied to faith and divine destiny.
“I’ve had this calling since I was a child. At 19, I was almost a pastor, but I ran away for reasons I can’t even explain,” she said, noting that she has remained actively involved in church activities since leaving secondary school.
Describing her life journey as anything but ordinary, Tonto said only divine intervention enabled her to overcome experiences that could have destroyed many others. She believes those trials were necessary to mould her into who she is today.
The actress further disclosed that her spiritual calling is centred on prayer and healing. She revealed that she may launch an online prayer platform in the future, but only if she receives clear direction from God. According to her, the work would not be driven by money, fame, or public recognition.
“At this point in my life, I’m letting God lead completely. I’m just a vessel,” she said, adding that her return to faith was motivated by survival and a desire to live, not material pursuits.
Tonto also reflected on her past struggles, including anger, smoking, alcohol abuse, and other personal battles, which she says God has helped her overcome over time.
