Nigerian singer and songwriter Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has finally explained why her much-anticipated single "Where You Dey" featuring Chike did not drop in 2025 as expected.

In a candid message shared on her X account, the singer revealed that serious health challenges during her pregnancy slowed down the recording and promotion process, making it difficult for her to release the song on schedule.

Simi disclosed that she was physically drained throughout the period, battling illness, nausea, weakness, and extreme exhaustion.

According to her, even basic tasks felt overwhelming, despite her strong desire to put out the song after teasing fans with a snippet that quickly went viral.

“I really, really, really wanted to drop this song last year,” she wrote. “When I put out the snippet, I was excited — but it was hard to finish on time because everything was a blur. I was sick, weak, nauseous and tired. Even in the snippet video, I wasn’t feeling great. I was just trying my best.”

The singer added that watching the studio video later left her surprised, as she could not understand how she managed to summon that level of energy despite how unwell she felt at the time.

Simi and her husband, Adekunle Gold, announced they were expecting their second child in December 2025.

Explaining her choice of collaborator, Simi said she had always admired Chike’s voice and knew instantly that he was perfect for the song. She revealed that although Chike was out of town when she reached out to him, he showed up at her studio immediately he returned — unaware that she was pregnant and struggling physically.

Addressing long-standing criticism from some fans who claim she slowed down her career because of marriage, Simi shut down the narrative, stating that the release of the song speaks for itself.

“PS: This is a chance for those of you that say I gave up my career for marriage to fight for my rights… or just keep quiet,” she added.
