Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has offered some insights into why his outfit were hammered by Arsenal in the Premier League.

The Gunners thumped the Blues 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium to maintain their position at the top of the Premier League standings ahead of Liverpool and Manchester City who are yet to play their respective games.

Leandro Trossard gave the home side an early lead in the 4th minute following a fine assist from Declan Rice.

Despite conceding early in the game, Mauricio Pochettino's side were able to keep the Gunners at bay for the remaining minutes in the first half.

But the Blues conceded four goals in the second half as Mikel Arteta's side returned strongly in the second 45 minutes courtesy of braces from Kai Havertz and Ben White.

Speaking in a post-match reaction, the Argentine tactician admitted that his side were not competitive.

“I think we started the game not so well.

“We conceded the goal and then it was difficult for us to recover from this goal. I think in the first half we compete after 10, 15 minutes.

“We could not approach the game like we started in the first half and we didn’t compete the way we needed to compete and then when they scored the third it was easy for Arsenal to control the game,” Pochettino told TNT Sports.
