Olympique Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi has showered praise on Gabon captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after another impressive performance in the French Ligue 1.
The 36-year-old guided his side to a comprehensive 6-2 victory over Le Havre at the weekend, helping Marseille maintain their position at the top of the Ligue 1 table ahead of European champions Paris Saint-Germain.
The former Arsenal captain has been in red-hot form this season, registering four goals and four assists in eight games for Marseille.
Aubameyang’s staggering form could pose a major concern for the Super Eagles, ahead of the highly anticipated World Cup playoff against Gabon in November.
Nigeria will face Gabon in the semi-final World Cup playoff in Morocco, with the winner taking on either Cameroon or DR Congo in the final.
Reacting to Marseille’s victory last weekend, De Zerbi hailed the former Barcelona striker as an all-round attacker.
“He’s a true champion, a different kind of player,” the former Brighton boss told Le Phoceen.
“I’m discovering him to be even stronger than I imagined. He has a lot of qualities; he’s not just a goalscorer.
“He can make assists, bring speed, depth — he’s a hard worker too… He’s a champion.”
