Businessman in court for allegedly beating estranged wife

A 44 -year-old businessman, Ramon Fatai, who allegedly beat up his estranged wife, appeared in Magistrates’Court in Ikeja, Lagos.

Fatai, who resides at Mushin, Lagos, is charged with three counts of breach of peace, threat to life and assault.

Fatai, however, denied committing the offence.

The prosecution counsel, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in January at Surulere, Lagos.

He said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by invading the house of his estranged wife, Rahmat, causing her emotional panic.

Ayorinde alleged that the defendant assaulted his wife and threatened to kill her and their children.

He alleged that the defendant, who beats his wife, went to the new house some good citizens rented for her and beat her up.

“He dragged her on the ground, causing her severe injuries and vowed to terminate her life.

” The defendant, who has refused to provide for their four children’s feeding and school fees, aged ten, eight, six and three, also threatened to kill them.

“The case was reported and the defendant was arrested,” he alleged.

The offence, the prosecutor said, contravened the provisions of sections 56, 168 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate B.O Osunsanmi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi ordered that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.(LASG)
