An elderly woman aged 101 has been arrested for allegedly trading in cannabis in Ogun State.

The great-grandmother, who has been identified as Esther Ogunmabo, was apprehended by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Saturday, August 22, in the Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State.

NDLEA media director Femi Babafemi disclosed that the elderly woman was caught in possession of 90 grams of cannabis, which she allegedly sold to members of the community.

According to the suspect, she turned to the illicit trade after her provision shop was destroyed by fire. The elderly woman has since been granted bail due to her age.

After an investigation, the NDLEA disclosed that one of the suspect's daughters, who is based in Lagos, had been identified as the supplier of the illegal substance. The daughter has also been arrested.

Ogunmabo's arrest comes amid a series of drug seizures by the NDLEA along Nigeria's maritime routes.
