Former presidential spokesperson Femi Adesina stated that Muhammadu Buhari might have died long ago if he had relied on Nigerian hospitals.

During Channels Television‘s special on Buhari’s funeral on Tuesday, Adesina explained that critics who questioned Buhari’s death in a London hospital should know that he had a history of using London medical facilities before becoming president in May 2015.

He said the UK doctors were already familiar with Buhari’s health records, so there was no need to switch to other doctors.

Adesina also noted that some hospitals in Nigeria lack the necessary facilities and expertise for Buhari’s treatment.

"If Buhari had chosen to use Nigerian hospitals, he could have long been dead because they may not have the expertise needed. He needed to be alive to lead the country," he said.

Buhari's remains are expected back in Daura, Katsina State, where he will be laid to rest according to Islamic rites.
