Bala withdraws name of commissioner nominee hours after transmitting same to state assembly

Bauchi state Governor, Bala Mohammed has withdrawn the name of one of the 17 commissioner nominees he transmitted to the Bauchi state assembly for screening and subsequent confirmation.

The Bauchi state assembly has in its yesterday plenary announced that it has received 17 commissioner nominees from Governor Bala Mohammed for screening and subsequent confirmation.

Our Corresspondent reports that the name of the nominee, Pharmacist Samaila Burga from Tafawa Balawa was submitted to the state assembly for screening alongside 16 others early this week.

But in a summary of the Wednesday plenary of the state assembly, the members received another letter from the Governor communicating the withdrawal of the nominee.

The summary of the plenary which was made available to newsmen by the spokesperson of the Speaker, Comrade Abdul Ahmad Burra, the house directed its Committee on rules and business to come up with a time table within which to carry out the screening of the rest of the nominees.

Burra said that the message from the Governor was presented at the floor of the house by its Majority leader, Hon. Tijjani Muhammad Aliyu.

"The Governor informed the Honourable House of his withdrawal of the nomination of Sama'ila Adamu Burga from Tafawa Balewa Local Government as commissioner nominee", parts of the summary of the plenary reads.

According to Comrade Burra, the plenary which was presided over by his Principal, Rt. Honourable Abubakar Sulaiman also adopted votes and proceedings of Tuesday plenary as amended.

Daily Times recalled that Governor Bala Mohammed had in June announced the dissolution of all his commissioners, some of his aides, including his Chief of staff, Dr Ladan Salihu and the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Alhaji Sabiu Baba, citing no reason.

Also, barely a week after dissolving his cabinet, the Governor appointed Barrister Ibrahim Kashim as Secretary to the State Government.

The governor also appointed Dr. Aminu Gamawa, as the new Chief of Staff, Government House a day after the appointment of the news SSG was announced.
