The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of frustrating its campaign preparations for the 2027 general elections by allegedly denying the opposition party access to event venues and advertising billboards.
Making the allegations during a television interview, NDC National Publicity Secretary Osa Director insisted that the party will not be intimidated or prevented from exercising its democratic rights.
He disclosed that the party had faced repeated setbacks in securing event locations despite making full financial payments, noting that a recently targeted venue fell through at the last minute.
"This is the fourth venue we are paying for. We kept this one under wraps until just a few hours ago when we issued the press release, only for us to be called that the political marauders have come and said they are the owners of the land, so we should take back our money," Director stated.
Emphasizing that no individual or political party holds exclusive ownership of the country, Director maintained that the party would forge ahead with its activities, invoking the sacrifices made to attain Nigeria's current democracy.
In addition to venue challenges, he alleged that the party had been locked out of billboard spaces, though he asserted that such hurdles would not stop the party from connecting with voters.
APC Dismisses Claims
In a swift reaction, the All Progressives Congress dismissed the allegations as entirely groundless.
An official speaking anonymously questioned the credibility of the accusations, noting that the opposition failed to specify which states or government ministries were allegedly responsible.
"You want us to be responding to such baseless allegations? The party will not. Are we in kindergarten? Which state? Which ministry denied them the use of facilities?" the official queried.
