The President of the All Nigerian Community in Ghana, Chief David Ukueku, has urged Ghanaians not to discriminate against Nigerians because of the actions of a few.
Ukueku made the appeal at a Nigerian Independence Day party hosted by the Ghana chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). He said Nigerians living in Ghana should not be judged by a handful of bad actors.
"They should not take a few elements of the few bad Nigerians to classify all Nigerians to be bad. I'm a proud Nigerian, this is the Nigerian flag and I've been in Ghana for decades," he said, adding that no one could point to any crime he had been involved in. "So they should know that we have good Nigerians."
He pointed to Nigerian contributions to Ghana's economy as evidence.
"Look at the Nigerian banks everywhere. Look at Nigerian businesses coming up in Ghana. We are employing Ghanaians, paying taxes. So they shouldn't use the few eggs to justify that all Nigerians are bad," he said.
Ukueku also stressed the long-standing bond between the two countries, noting that even their famous jollof rivalry has never turned violent.
"We are one. Nigeria and Ghana are one. We will be fighting over Ghana's jollof and Nigeria's jollof, but there has never been any gunshot. So that shows we are peace-loving nations," he said.
He added that the Nigerian community in Ghana enjoys good relations with the Ghanaian community in Nigeria, and that both groups plan a joint online meeting to discuss issues affecting the two countries.
"I believe with this new executive of ANC, we'll make Nigeria great," he said.
