Moses Olafare, the Director Media and Public Affairs, Palace of the Oonirisha, has said the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has directed him not to respond to the "empty threat" issued by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade.
MyNigeria reported that controversy started after the Ooni conferred the title of Okanlomo of Yorubaland on businessman Dotun Sanusi.
Reacting, the Alaafin issued a statement saying the right to confer chieftaincy titles in Yorubaland lies solely in his jurisdiction. This was as he issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Ooni, warning him to reverse the decision or face consequences for his actions.
In a Facebook post, Ooni's spokesperson, Olafare, described the Alaafin as a joker who is not worth dignifying with a response.
He shared, "From Ooni's Palace: My Principal has directed me against issuing a Press Release on the Empty Threat of the Alawada Babasala.
"I beg to disappoint you gentlemen of the press. We can not dignify the undignifyable with an official response. We leave the matter to be handled in the public court of opinion has it is already being treated.
"Let's rather focus on narratives that unite us rather than the ones capable of dividing us. No Press Release pls. 48 Hours My Foot!"
