5 people likely to succeed COAS Attahiru

Following the death of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru who passed away in a military plane crash on Friday, May 21, 2021, a list of names for his replacement has emerged.

This list comprises names of senior military officers who could become Attahiru's successor in the coming days.

President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru as the Chief of Arny Staff in January 2021.

According to a report by PR Nigeria, here are the officers that may likely be named by the president.

1. Major General Danjuma Ali-Keffi - General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army, Kaduna

Unconfirmed reports claimed that Major General Danjuma Ali-Keffi may be appointed but a security was reported to have said that Ali-Keffi has more than 30 senior major generals above him in seniority and if he is chosen, that means they will be forced to retire.

2. Major General Ben Ahanotu from Anambra State - Chief of Policy and Plan.

3. Major General AM Aliyu from Gombe state - Chief of Administration of the Nigerian Army and former Director Foreign Liaison at the Defence Intelligence Agency.

4. Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf from Yobe state - Chief of Operation and former Force Commander Multinational Joint Taskforce (MNJTF).

5. Major General Faruk Yahaya from Zamfara state - Current Theatre Commander Operation in the North-East.
