Army will perform shooting drills in Rivers - Spokesman

Nigerian Army Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army's 6th Division has announced that its annual range categorization exercise would take place from June 13 to June 27.

The exercise attempted to determine the professional competency of troops on the use of firearms, according to Lt.-Col. Charles Ekeocha, the division's spokesman, in a statement released on Friday in Port Harcourt.

He said the exercise will be held at the Army Shooting Range in Igwuruta and Elele Barracks, both in Ikwerre Council, by troops from the division and its linked formations and units.

“The shooting practice, which involves the firing of various caliber live ammunitions, is a normal activity in the Nigerian Army.

“Members of the public are urged to stay away from the general shooting area, particularly inhabitants of Igwuruta and Elele, as well as their environs,” he said.

The public should not be alarmed by the movement of troops, military equipment, or the sound of gunshots, according to the army spokesman.
